The Basic Police Sniper course is a 40 hour course with the purpose of training and certifying SWAT operators as sniper/spotter teams. This course is OPEN ENROLLMENT. Operators will be trained in the use of advanced observation and precision rifle fire to ensure the best possible outcome in a SWAT incident.   

Live fire and range components will be held at various locations in and around Rockford and Rochelle Illinois. 

Instructor Information: Matthew Gerard has 15 years of Law Enforcement background as well as 14 years on the local SWAT team and Sniper Team Leader for Ogle County Sheriff’s Officer. Matt has training as a firearms instructor and NTOA Sniper Instructor.

• Precision rifle set up 

• Zeroing procedure 

• Data book usage 

• DOPE recording 

• Moving target engagements 

• Hide construction 

• Stress shooting 

• Command and coordinated fire 

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: 

• Precision rifle capable of 1 MOA or better (contact instructor with questions) NO HUNTING RIFLES 

• Small soft bag/ sand sock 

• 400 rds of match ammunition from the same lot 

• Data book 

• Hide construction materials (if available) 

• Ghillie suit (if available) 

• Tripod with saddle (if available) 

• Hide vehicle (if available) 

• Pack for equipment 

• Proper ear and eye protection
